Chapter Nine: The Life I Never Thought I'd Have to Live

In “The Life I Never Thought I’d Have to Live,” JoBeth Polley traces a love story and a series of losses. She shares her journey of creating a beautiful life with her husband Travis while navigating an infertility struggle that left her unable to have children. After adopting two children, Travis was diagnosed with a glioblastoma cancer in 2021 that would eventually take his life a short year later. Jobeth shares her story of navigating profound loneliness, disappearing support, and strained faith ties as she raises kids on their farm in Arkansas. Over time she remarries, encounters Christ in a new way, forms deeper friendships, and reframes loss as choice and invitation. She began training as a grief-recovery specialist and encourages readers to find small, daily good and keep moving.
