Chapter Three: Where is the How-To Guide for Tragedy?

After learning her father has terminal lung cancer, Anne Marie Wells leaves Wyoming and returns home to help care for him. During a sleepless night at the hospital, she borrows a pen from the nurses’ station and writes her first poem on the back of a receipt. This becomes a doorway: poetry as vessel, practice, and purpose. From there, she shapes grief into lived guidance—protect your circle, accept help, cling to gratitude, find small places of control, remember and repeat. Her chapter traces how art, small rituals, and clear boundaries don’t erase sorrow but carry love forward, offering a heartfelt way to keep going.
